BUILDING CONSTRUCTION
EXPERIENCING CONSTRUCTION
This first task required us to produce a construction document of a small scale building and expose ourselves to the construction site environment.
My group and I visited 2 sites. First, a housing area in Taman Taynton View where most of the construction work was done. However, the contractor did explain to us about basic procedures of the construction phase. I also got to observe the finishing works such as plastering of brick walls and installation of doors and windows
Due to the previous site being in it's final construction phase, we picked another residential site in Cheras. It was a 2 storey bungalow that served as a private clubhouse. The architect was kind enough to brief us about the project explaining about his design process, suitability of material to construction and etc.
This assignment gave me exposure to the construction world like the steps in a construction site, necessary equipments, elements of a building and how they are constructed. The documentation part made me more informed as i had to do further research of the specific methods used in this building.

CONSTRUCTION DETAIL
The second task focuses on specific construction details of a selected house. Two elements of a house were to be highlighted showing construction details and specifications.
This assignment has made me more aware of considering construction method during the design process. I also got to apply my knowledge from the building materials module last semester as different materials will have different installation methods and properties.
Overall, to consider materiality more than just an aesthetic factor and also to have knowledge on construction methods of various elements of a building.
