culture & history II

timeline & diagram analysis

Task 1 required us to produce a chronological timeline of malaysia's modern architecture. My group researched on the north west region of Kuala Lumpur. We discovered many interesting post independence buildings and had to compile and analyse each one. I've realised that each building evolves as it becomes more present incorporating both the traditional and modern elements such as the Dayabumi.

This project also introduced us to producing analysis diagrams to communicate certain aspects of building that wants to be highlighted. With that, we had to employ critical thinking skills and figure a way to express it in abstract forms.

chin woo stadium

The second assignment was to produce a report on a modern building in the Klang Valley. The building we selected was Chin Woo Stadium which is an art deco styled stadium nestled in Petaling Street.

Unlike the first assignment, this required a more detailed research into said building. We took two trips to the building and was given a tour of the parameter as well as a book on Chin Woo Stadium in chinese characters.

The book gave much insight on the history of the building along with black and white pictures of past events held in Chin Woo. Although it had to be translated for us. Through this research, I've come to appreciate buildings of the past that is so rich with history and should not be demolished for new development. Im glad that we have contributed to the documentation of old buildings in Klang Valley so people are still able to learn about past buildings.
