ARCHITECTURE CULTURE & HISTORY

This module introduces the history of architectural theory from the beginning of time to the 18th century. It aims to show the development and changes in architecture.

I WIKI TIMeS ONLINE DISCUSSION FORUM

In a group, we were assigned to carry out a precedent study on a given building. Individually, we had to select a question regarding the building and summarise it online on a discussion forum.

The building I was to study was St. Peter's Basilica in Rome and the question I chose was regarding the form and shape of the building.

This task gave me an understanding behind the design and significance of the building. Uncovering the answer for thi question was interesting because of the many changes that St. Peter's had gone through. Although my question covers just one aspect, I got to learn more about the building through collective information on the forum.

II PRECEDENT STUDY & ANALYSIS SKETCH JOURNAL

This assignment required us to produce an analysis sketch journal to further investigate and compare the given building to other buildings from previous and future architectural eras. The content of the journal is to include written descriptions and annotative diagrams and sketches.

By having to compare St. Peter's basilica to a previous and future architectural era, I learned more about building styles in the gothic and baroque period. I learned the difference in construction method, architectural elements and style in the respective eras. Not to mention it gave me a platform for me to practice and improve my drawing skills.

III PRESENTATION BOARD

The last task required us to produce an A2 presentation board about a focused topic of the same building. I chose to analyse the spatial organization of St. Peter's Basilica.

Through this task, i learned how the architects have created and arranged the spaces to best accomodate the function. Also, the design concept and how it has affected the building.
