project 1 - pRELIMINARY STUDIES
The site analysis this semesters gives us our first hand at understanding the basic notions of the city. An introduction to urban design through studies of real life scenario of our site located at Jalan Stesen 1 and Jalan Besar, Klang. The theme of our preliminary studies aimed at unveiling hidden layers of Klang. The site that is often seen by visitors as being stagnant and almost forgotten holds more than meets the eye when taken a closer look.
This project also includes precedent studies into urban infills and Learning Centres, both crucial aspects of the project. The potential role of the learning centre for the community and it's contextual relevance along with the challenges and possibilities of an infill site.
project 1b - INDIVIDUAL INTERPRETATION
project 2 - LEARNING CENTRE FOR ALL
The design of the building is to develop appropriate architectural responses to address urban issues highlighted in the preliminary studies. A holistic approach that could tackle the urban context and the social behavioural patterns. The project also includes an introduction to legislative restrictions and integration of several aspects of design including lighting, acoustic and facade exploration.
The project aims to reactivate the site through the continuation of active voids in the building. It also addresses the social issue of dying tradesmen by providing a platform for them to engage with the local community and creating interest amongst them.
Through this project, I've learned about the role and importance of architecture in an urban context. It's potential to solve issues beyond the just the physical but mainly serving the people. Invariably, reflecting on my own progress and identifying my weaknesses in aspects such as space planning, concept development and construction techniques which will help me improve as an architecture student.
